HOW TO STRENGTHEN THE PELVIC AREA

I’m constantly reminding the men and women in my classes to pull up and away from the center of the body for flexible strength, poise and weight distribution. In the above pictures I’m working with one of my grand-daughters, showing how to strengthen the pelvic area by pulling the upper body as high as possible, (with the help of the arms) so the natural waistline “hinge” can make it easier to isolate, and gently push those pelvic muscles forward, then pull them back.
The actual exercise is done by stepping to the front with the right foot, tightening and pushing the pelvic muscles forward as the arms stretch upward as high as possible, then stepping back on the left foot as the arms come down, and repeating three more times before you do it to the left side.
It’s actually the last exercise of my daily routine of slow, continuous stretching to classical music, and is a very satisfying ending – a formal exhibition of the grace and poise that can be achieved by daily exercise.
